General Information:

Visit the "site lite" section of the Reinike Gallery web site (www.reinikegallery.com) for my bio, artist's statement, CV, some terrific links to magazine articles about my work that can be viewed online, and a recent painting demonstration filmed by "American Artist." Generally, I have lived in New Orleans since 1984 and have done most of my landscape painting and figure painting there. I visit my home town, Jacksonville, Florida frequently and have done a considerable amount of painting there as well. I have also, though less frequently, painted in Atlanta and New York. Since I work only from life I must be located where my subject is. Accordingly, the great majority of my landscape painting is of New Orleans. I have had more than 30 solo exhibits in New Orleans and across the country. In September 2008 I had a large solo exhibit at the Cummer Art Museum in Jacksonville coinciding with the release of my third book "Jacksonville Through a Painter's Eyes." My first book, "New Orleans en Plein Air" surveyed the paintings that I did of New Orleans from about 1987 to 2002, with text that I wrote about vision, painting in general, and my specific approach to painting. My second book, "Painting Katrina" chronicles my experiences painting the hurricane destruction in New Orleans. My latest book, "New Orleans Impressionist Cityscapes" was released September 15 2012. It contains reproductions of 140 landscape, maritime, and cityscape paintings that I have done in the New Orleans metropolitan area since late 2006. The text, a large essay called "The Allure of the Image" will sort out the difference between our vision and the objective photogaph-like image, and examine how different approaches to representational painting have alligned artists' work with one or the other. My books are available at better book stores, online, at the galleries that represent me, and directly from the publisher, Pelican Publishing Company (www.pelicanpub.com). My paintings are in such prominent collections as the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Historic New Orleans Collection, and the Louisiana State Museum. My paintings can be purchased at the Galleries that represent me, Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans (www.coleprattgallery.com), Stellers Gallery in Jacksonville (www.stellersgallery.com), and the Reinike Gallery in Atlanta (www.reinikegallery.com). You can also make an appointment with me to see my work at my studio in New Orleans which should be considered an extension of the Cole Pratt Gallery regarding sales of my paintings. To inquire about specific paintings shown in this web site, to make an appointment to see my work at my studio, or discuss a possible commission, contact me by e-mail at sandmany11@cox.net. The minimum prices for my paintings range from $1800 for 11" x 14" to $3200 for 18" x 24" or 15" x 30".
