These paintings are used in my Katrina print series and, along with more than twice as many others, are also reproduced in my book Painting Katrina. Making these plein air  paintings in the immediate aftermath of Katrina was a daunting experience. It seems I  could only capture a small portion of what I felt standing amidst the silty wreckage of neighborhoods. The houses and fragments of houses seemed like behemoths that had become organic and lived very shortly and died in tortured poses.  Evidence of the powerful force of nature was everywhere you looked.
