Below is a time-based painting presentation I’ve made based on 2 different plein air paintings I did late July 2021 as demonstrations for my class. The view is looking down Solomon Street from Dumaine (near City Park). Both canvases were done simultaneously over a couple of similar partly cloudy summer days during the same 3-hour period each day. They were on two different easels and I switched back and fourth between them, painting on one when the sun was out and the other when the sun was behind the clouds. For the time based presentation below, I used images of these paintings but also added a couple of transitional images that I made in Photoshop by modifying the originals. I then created timed dissolves between the 4 images in iMovie. The purpose of this presentation is to illustrate the temporal nature of our visual sensation and perception of a scene where the sun is going in and out from behind the clouds.
